Syed Shazad Sultan
Country Head Marketing and Operations for China Overseas Ports Holding Company
Saiyed Shahzad Sultan is a respected and experienced professional with a Master of Business Administration in Maritime. He is currently serving as the Country Head Marketing and Operations for Gwadar Port and Gwadar Free Zone, which are operated and developed by the China Overseas Ports Holding Company. Shahzad has over 19 years of dynamic marketing, commercial, and business development experience. He has excellent presentation skills and hands-on experience in creating management plans aligned with strategic objectives, budgets, and forecasts. He has the ability to set goals and objectives to drive results. Shahzad has strong contacts with major business houses, prominent traders of Pakistan, the Board of Investment, FPCCI, shipping lines, and other regulatory authorities. He maintains a close association with the Prime Minister's office, Senate, and various ministries and the Federal Board of Revenue.
Shahzad has made significant contributions and achievements throughout his career. He led the launch of the first container liner KGS service and import of LPG at Gwadar Terminal. He successfully launched the Afghan Transit Trade in bulk via Gwadar Port and international transshipment at Gwadar Port. Shahzad was also instrumental in substantial export and import trade of local commodities such as seafood, wheat, urea, rice, cement, DAP, phosphate, marble, and minerals. He has also been actively involved in the planning and execution of various events such as the Gwadar Expo, the Gwadar Marble and Mineral Expo, consultation seminars on Gwadar Free Zone, and the Clean Green Gwadar Movement. Shahzad maintains close coordination with all stakeholders, including FreeZone investors, exporters/importers, shipping lines, clearing and forwarding agents, government ministries and authorities, chambers and associations, and trade bodies.
In recognition of his outstanding performance, Shahzad has received several awards, including the Excellence Award for Gwadar Port and Freezone in 2021 presented by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was also recognized as the Outstanding Pakistani employee of CPEC projects in 2019 and the Outstanding Employee of the Year 2016 in COPHC. Shahzad is currently serving as the Chairman of the Council for Maritime and Port Development at the Pakistan Institute of Management and as the Convener of the Central Standing Committee on Maritime and Gwadar Development of FPCCI. He is also an Advisor to the President of the Pakistan Boat Rally and Fishing Association.
Before his current position, Shahzad worked as the Deputy Manager Sales and Marketing at Diamond Shipping Services Pvt Ltd. (Sharaf Group) from 2012 to 2015 and the Deputy Manager Marketing and Business Development at Sea Consortium Pakistan Pvt. Ltd / X-Press Feeders from 2010 to 2012.
